PHILLIPS COUNTY LIBRARY
About Us
The Phillips County Library has a rich history and significant impact on its community. Originally founded as the Helena Women's Association in 1891, it evolved into the Phillips County Library and was recognized for its historical value by being placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, with then-Governor Bill Clinton presiding over the designation.
Notably, the Phillips County Library holds the distinction of being the longest continuously running library west of the Mississippi River. From its humble beginnings with a collection of just 533 books, it has grown substantially and now boasts a collection of 48,035 books across three locations: Marvell, Elaine, and Helena.
In addition to its extensive collection, the library houses the Phillips Lee Monroe Regional Library, which receives funding through the Arkansas State Library. The library offers public computers, limited genealogy resources, and a community room. It is particularly vibrant in June, offering exciting children's programs featuring live animals, theater performances, and magicians.
The Phillips County Library also values community engagement and fosters local partnerships with other agencies, enhancing its role as a central hub of knowledge and community activity.
